Laser/Sunfish Sailing - Wild Afternoon!

We had a wild afternoon on the Lake last Saturday. Many of the Lasers were away at a team racing event in New Hampshire, but four Sunfish and three Lasers went out in pretty heavy winds which kicked up even more once we were out on the water. The first race was abandoned due to multiple capsizes.

The wind was steady in the 15 to 20 range with gusts well into the 20s. Whitecaps were everywhere. Several sailors wisely decided to retire. Two Lasers and two Sunfish stayed and completed one race before sanity prevailed and we all went back to shore. We didn't get all that much sailing in, but we got to practice capsize recovery, and had a lot of fun talking about it back on the beach.

Our PRO, Dan Abram did a fantastic job with the rescue boat. He told me later that he had put what he had learned at Bob Gaffney's rescue motorboat course to very good use. Speaking of Bob, below are some great pictures that he took Last Thursday. Thanks to Bob for all he does for us.

We're back in action this Thursday evening. The summer seems to be slipping by so quickly. Don't let the good times pass you by.
