Sunset was pretty at the lake last night, but it is happening too early now, so the 2009 Thursday evening Laser/Sunfish season has now been completed. Eight Laser sailors had a very nice time with a lot of banter and camaraderie on the water. The wind was somewhat patchy and even more shifty then usual, to the point where we occasionally "auto-tacked," finding ourselves going from one tack to the other without changing course.
The Saturday late afternoon Laser/Sunfish series finishes for the season tomorrow. With tropical storm Danny headed this way, we are watching the weather forecasts closely. Currently Danny is projected pass southeast of Nantucket late tomorrow with heavy rain and winds from the lee side hitting us. The heaviest rain (2 to 3 inches) may be along the I-95 corridor. If it looks like a washout, we'll try to send a cancellation email by 12 noon tomorrow. On the other hand, if the storm tracks further east we could end up with a spectacular Saturday Laser/Sunfish sailing season finale. Laser sailors, however, might want to think about switching to the (smaller) radial sail. Stay tuned.
