The way they were placed was by information passed down over the ages beginning not in biblical times as one my think because we do this every year during Passover and Easter, but through campfire discussions started by the Massapoag Indians who once traveled our lake.
The markers are in about 20 +- feet of water "today"... This gives you plenty of safe margin when the water level drops from the 11.5' level today to the usual 9.5' average in August. Taking into consideration the prevailing southwesterly wind and the estimated slack from the 17' to 22' chains once the water level drops a few feet and centerboards of between 3' and 5', you will not hit rocks. Stay outside the markers! I can't say anything else.
The mark at Flat Rock is closer that you think. Stay away!
If you are to chance going inside these marks, good luck. You may make it and say how stupid those idiots were and how much more lake is available or you may thank those who know how you sail and are looking out for your best interest.
